What players do

Decisions become inheritance.

Plan one year at a time

Balance food, materials, money, tools, goods, livestock, buildings, housing, and scarce family labor.

Face the Family Council

Each year ends with dilemmas built from the exact state of the campaign: hunger or surplus, debt or growth, relationships, loss, and ambition.

Continue through succession

When the family head dies, the next generation takes over with the skills, debts, rivalries, reputation, and unfinished consequences left behind.

Live beneath history

Migration, changing borders, new settlements, markets, local conflicts, and new dangers reach the household and alter the available choices.

Generative AI disclosure. Salt and Soil uses generative AI during gameplay to create some Annual Family Council narrative text and structured choice outcomes based on the current campaign state. Generated council content is constrained by the game’s historical setting, family data, localization rules, and gameplay schema, then validated before it is shown to the player.
