Salt and Soil

Family and generations

The homestead survives through people, not abstractions.

Guide one family across generations as choices, relationships, debts, losses, and hard-won advantages become the next heir’s starting point.

A family chronicle emerges from play.

Salt and Soil is built for players who want emergent family stories in a grounded historical colony sim. The family is both the workforce that keeps the homestead alive and the community that must live with every compromise.

Each Annual Family Council reframes campaign conditions as personal dilemmas. When leadership passes to the next generation, the story continues with inherited property, abilities, relationships, reputation, debts, and unresolved consequences.

Salt and Soil

What carries forward

Relationships

Marriage, kinship, quarrels, loyalty, rivalry, and loss shape the household around every practical decision.

Memory and reputation

What a family does can affect how relatives and the surrounding community approach later choices.

Material inheritance

Land, buildings, livestock, tools, goods, money, and debt become the foundation—or burden—of the next era.

Leadership

The death of a family head changes who decides, what skills guide the household, and which old tensions return.
